OPENING OF THE HEALING GARDEN AT THE ROYAL DERBY HOSPITAL

On 15 May, we officially opened our new ‘Healing Garden’ at the Royal Derby Hospital. This calm and peaceful courtyard area has been sensitively landscaped to provide an area for people to plant bulbs in memory of loved ones who have sadly died at our hospitals.

The project is a collaboration between Air Arts and the End of Life team at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton and was funded by charitable donations to the hospital charity and a Tesco Bags of Help grant.  The garden was opened in glorious sunshine by the chief executive of the hospital Trust, Gavin Boyle who also planted the first bulb. Ward Sister Elizabeth Mason also planted a bulb in memory of her Nan and Father in Law. The event was covered by both East Midlands Today and BBC Radio Derby.

The public will be able to plant bulbs at special events throughout the year, the first one is planned for 28 September.
